Its frequent when meeting CEO’s from ambitious companies that they think an interim will fit the bill if they have a short term IT need. The problem they find is that interims are really hired guns who arrive on your premises, work full-time for a few months, and then depart as suddenly as they arrive. It’s extremely unlikely you’ll ever hear from them again as they’ll be on another full-time contract.
Unfortunately we’re in a completely unregulated profession… anyone can knock up a CV and call themselves an interim CIO. A lot of these people are very plausible, but that’s not the same as being good at this kind of job.
