Summary
The most rewarding part of my role is getting to know a business from end to end so a strategic and tactical people plan can be developed.
Having learned best in class people practices with NHS, BBC, Northern Foods and Mitsubishi Corporation, I then entered director-level roles in logistics within what is now XPO/GXO partnering with organisations such as Honda, Kimberley Clarke, Corus/Tata, Sainsbury, Tesco, Boots, Ineos, BP and many other mid-sized businesses, undertaking commercial and management roles as well as core HR tasks in high paced, hands-on and commercially savvy environments.
I then moved into consulting – delivering total business solutions for a variety of mid-tier and SMEs:-
* Recruiting and reorganising a family owned mechanical services firm allowing the owners to exit the business.
* Advised MD of agricultural business on the optimal structure for SME moving to next stage of growth. Worked with PE to define people and structural issues that were blocking the next stage of development.
* Defined and coached acquisition and merger of mid-sized chemical business into a family-owned environment.
* Coaching of MDs and heads of in various businesses to identify people issues and opportunities.
On top of the expected “classic” HR activities you would expect, I have led functions including sales, commercial, procurement, customer service, IT, H&S and legal/insurance. Proud to be described as “an all-round business person not just an HR expert”.
