Summary
Steve has over 30 years’ experience in HR Leadership, with a proven track record of success and delivery across all aspects of HR. During his career, Steve has worked across a wide variety of business sectors, including manufacturing, food, retail, distribution and plant rental.
With 17 years’ experience working in senior HR roles for Scottish & Newcastle, Express Dairies and Warburtons, Steve gained significant exposure to working with and negotiating with unions whilst delivering strong relationships and refined working practices. This was followed by 6 years proudly growing Maplin from 100 to 189 stores and significantly improving staff attraction and retention, delivering industry leading retention statistics.
More recent roles with Nationwide Platforms and Sunbelt Rentals, Steve drastically strengthened the role of HR, adding value and delivering bottom line improvements for both businesses. During his time as HR Director for Sunbelt, Steve is proud of his work on employee engagement, delivering an 11% improvement over 3 years, ultimately resulting in the businesses decision to rebrand in 2020.
With a commercial and pragmatic approach to business, Steve is confident delivering improvements at all levels and building strong working relations with senior management, operational and support colleagues. With significant knowledge and experience in delivering strategic HR solutions, employee relations, recruitment and management development, Steve is a trusted coach and mentor.
A Fellow of the CIPD, Steve started his career in production line management with British Steel and Smiths Crisps, allowing him to truly understand the dynamics of working with people and delivering results.
